I am so looking forward to the premiere of my new piece for wind ensemble and rhythm section, Sun Compass, commissioned by Bill Drury and the NEC Wind Ensemble, tonight in Jordan Hall at 7:30pm. It is an absolute honor to have Frank Carlberg, Dor Herskovits, and Bob Nieske playing the solo parts, and the band sounds great! Working with Bill on this project this past year has been incredibly rewarding, not the least for the many trips to Five Guys, and I am so grateful to him for putting this all together. The piece is dedicated to Bill as one of many sendoff pieces this season. He will be greatly missed after decades of dedicated work at NEC.
